There's a little platform in the Waterfront harbour with steps up to it from the water, so the seals can climb up and sun themselves. This guy spent ten minutes grooming himself for us.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I don't think he was grooming himself for you... more likely for his cute little seal girlfriend (or girlfriend-to-be). And I bet he was thoroughly peeved that you spent 10 minutes gawking at him (and taking photos too!) while he was occupied with his private ablutions. Only he couldn't come up there and tell you to delete the photos and get lost, because he was perambulatorally-challenged. Honestly, some people have no sense of decorum...
