About Me
Software engineer, book lover, and world traveler based in San Francisco
I was born in Harare, Zimbabwe, and grew up there, attending St George's College. When I was 18, I started at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa, majoring in Computer Science and Philosophy, and eventually doing a Masters degree in Computer Science.
After university, I moved to Stellenbosch, and then Cape Town. I worked for a company called Yola before the lure of Big Tech drew me away from my beloved Cape Town. I spent a year in Vancouver, BC, in Canada, working for Facebook, before I could get a US visa and reluctantly (at first, because Vancouver is amazing) move to the Bay Area in California. I worked for Facebook for 8 years, mostly on Instagram (Developer Infrastructure and Release Engineering) before burning out during the COVID pandemic and taking 8 months off.
When I recovered, I started at Discord as a software engineer in the Core Tech org, working on the main Discord API Platform, where I remain (happily) to this day. I live in the Mission in San Francisco. I have a wonderful cat called Mustardseed.
What I Do
My primary programming language is Python, but I am fundamentally an infrastructure / developer infrastructure engineer, who enjoys making it as easy and safe as possible for code to go from the fingertips of other engineers to running in production accessible to the world.

Fun Fact
